Jalandhar Hosts Second National Lok Adalat of the Year, Target Set to Resolve 40,000 Cases in a Single Day
Jalandhar hosted the second National Lok Adalat of 2026, with 24 judicial benches working across Jalandhar, Phillaur and Nakodar to resolve up to 40,000 cases in one day. District and Sessions Judge Priya Sood said that this was the second Lok Adalat organized in 2026. To ensure smooth and efficient disposal of cases, 20 benches were constituted in Jalandhar, while two additional benches each were established in Phillaur and Nakodar.
Judge Sood stated that the objective of the day was to dispose of 40,000 cases, expressing confidence that between 38,000 and 39,000 matters would be successfully resolved. The cases taken up during the Lok Adalat included civil disputes, family conflicts, matrimonial matters, cheque bounce cases, traffic challans, and banking disputes.
She noted that the number of cases being brought before Lok Adalats has been steadily increasing, demonstrating the public's growing faith in this fast and cost-effective system of justice. Matrimonial disputes and cheque dishonour cases were among the most common matters presented, many of which were resolved through mutual consent and settlement.
Judge Sood emphasized that immediate settlement of disputes not only saves time and legal expenses but also helps eliminate bitterness and misunderstandings between the parties involved. By encouraging dialogue and compromise, Lok Adalats play a vital role in restoring harmony and preserving relationships.
During the proceedings, one case involving a man and a woman was brought to a successful settlement, although the parties requested one week's time to complete the formalities. Following the resolution, both sides expressed their gratitude to the court for facilitating an amicable outcome.
The National Lok Adalat in Jalandhar once again underscored the judiciary's dedication to accessible and speedy justice. With tens of thousands of disputes being addressed in a single day, the event highlighted the transformative role of Lok Adalats in delivering timely relief and strengthening public confidence in the legal system.
